About our goggles

Due to an unique find in a old warehouse full of vintage aircraft parts in Texas – US, we are able to offer you genuine WWII AN6530 goggles in new un-issued condition. These are the BEST goggles ever made and were issued to Air Force and Navy pilots & flight crews during WWII. They became ICON’s of that era and were the items that comes in mind when one thinks about a WWII fighter pilot.

We have the pleasure to be able to offer these goggles 60+ years after they have been manufactured in new un-used condition. We have a limited amount of the 2 brands that manufactured these goggles available:

A.    The AN6530 manufactured by Chas. Fischer Spring Co. during 1943. These goggles are ready to use and a set comes with a N.O.S. frame, a set of N.O.S. lenses in original dated wrapper (clear), grey strap (US made strap material) with US cadmium plated hardware and is completed with reproduction cushions with correct black coated brass retaining rings and chamois backing. The set will be shipped in correct era box and in condition as if they came out of the factory yesterday. As extra we include 2 sets of polycarbonate clear lenses one mounted and one as spare and also an extra strap for spare.

B.    The AN6530 manufactured by American Optical during 1943. Details about these goggles:
The frames we located are N.O.S. (New Old Stock) never issued frames. We have also scouted original N.O.S. lenses and have them in the colors: Clear, Amber & Green. Most goggles were issued with clear lenses however some pilots preferred amber or green lenses and they are easily changed (without the need for tools). The frames are either made out of nickel plated steel or brass. It is thought that the brass frames area earlier made than the steel ones. They are not discernible different in appearance.

The difference in the Chas. Fischer  Spring Co. & American Optical goggles is the ventilation system.

different-ventialtion

Chas. Fischer Spring Co. goggle frames have a long curved tube soldered on top of the frames while the American Optical goggles brand has a short tube welded to the top sides of the frame. These were patented systems and both brands used their own system. The frames have in the left half of the frame 3 holes which together with the center screw enables the center hinge  to be placed at a small range of withs so to fit well different face shapes. The cushion is flexible and stretches depending on what center screw position is used.

The lenses:
Were made by different manufacturers (American Optical, Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. & Libby Owens-Ford Glass Company) we included Bausch & Lomb lenses which till this day produce lenses for the Ray-Ban brand. These are glass lenses and thus nowadays to be used for display only. We mount polycarbonate clear lenses in the frames and ad an extra pair as spares. The goggles also come with a spare strap and that would be the first item to go.

The straps:
Are exact reproductions with either stainless or spring steel cadmium plated hardware, exact like the originals.
